About
This site holds every National Senior Certificate exam paper and memorandum the Department of Basic Education has published, from 2008 to 2025. 11,796 files across 43 subjects.
Why it exists
The papers are already public. The problem is finding one. They sit behind
links like LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=biJRkz_Tf9o%3d, with no subject,
no year and no paper number, grouped onto a single page per exam sitting as an
undifferentiated wall of downloads. If you want Mathematics Paper 2 from
November 2023 and its memorandum, there is no address you can go to.
Here there is. Every paper has its own page, with the memorandum on it.
What we found while building it
The department reuses the same file token under different names. We identified 556 cases where one file is served under two labels. Most swap a paper with its own memorandum, but dozens point at an entirely different subject.
The 2023 November Mathematical Literacy Paper 2 and the Mathematics Paper 2 serve the same file. Those are the two largest subjects in the country and they are not interchangeable. The errors cluster hardest in African language papers. IsiXhosa serves IsiZulu, Sepedi serves Sesotho. Those are home language papers for most candidates who write.
Any site that mirrored the department's archive inherited these. We are working through them by opening each file and reading its cover page. Pages we have confirmed carry a red tick and the date we checked. Pages without one have not been checked yet, and we would rather say so than imply a guarantee we cannot give.
How it is built
Plain HTML files. No accounts, no login, no newsletter. Every download shows its size before you tap it, and every paper opens in your browser so you are not spending data to find out you picked the wrong one. That matters more than it sounds when you are revising on a phone.
